Dear Ms.Davidow,

I’m writing to establish and give you an idea of my background and enjoyments. This is my first year at City College and I’m anticipating learning as much as I can about Writing for Engineering.

I grew up in New York and my family moved from Antigua in 1995. At first, my parents both were in Antigua but moved here when they were both 18 and did not know each other yet. At age 20 turning 21 my mother had my older sister, then six years later I came along. Once I turned 2 my parents got married. They had my little sister 10 years later. We all start with “L’S” just like my dad. So it’s Lorna, Laila, and Logan. Just like the character Wolverine from X-men.

My favorite subjects in school were math and history; anything which involved calculations or some form of politics had my attention. My extracurricular activities included art, cooking, cheerleading, and gaming. I’ve always loved to hang out and talk with my friends about social issues and about books we’ve read. I’ve always enjoyed having conversations with people. Not the type of conversation where one is talking and the other is just dumbly agreeing. I want there to be a rebuttal and response or even a disagreement to show you have your own opinions.

The reason I chose Political science is that I want to become a lawyer and maybe engross myself in politics someday. I like the field of political science because it is a study, it can show you why people in society do certain actions in politics, in the law and why it is an issue.

A meaningful experience I had was when we had a project in my writing class in high school and it was about a murder case. We had to build our court in class, get juries, a judge, lawyers, plaintiffs, and defendants. I was able to be the lawyer and represent the plaintiff. Each Lawyer had a team of people to assist in helping collect information on the case and figured out who did the murder. I found it quite exciting, to go through a simulation of what it would be like if I was a lawyer.

My dream for the future is to be a lawyer, be a creator, and be euphoric about having my career and living my life to the fullest extent. Although I am a political science major I’ve had an interest in engineering here and there. When I was around the age of 8, I thought it was set in stone that I wanted to be an engineer when I grow up or be involved in engineering in some way. My interest in engineering is more on a technical level, such as the terminology used in engineering. My concern is not being able to keep and understand everything very well. Since my major does not correlate with engineering I feel I won’t be able to grasp everything quickly as those who are in this major.

Sincerely,
Laila Jeremy
